Top ISU basketball recruiting target Jelani Hamilton is announcing his commitment on July 1st. He will announce at 12 PM (EST), 11 AM (CT). The 4 star and top 120 player in the nation holds offers from ISU, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, and others. It looks like the top schools in the race for Hamilton are Iowa State and Auburn. Additionally, Hamilton has received 2 crystal balls on 247 for the Cyclones. On3 Sports predicts that Jelani Hamilton has almost a 97% chance to commit to ISU. He recently took his visit to ISU and here is his instagram post from his time in Ames:
Jelani seems to have a great connection with coach Otzelberger and also has a family connection with the team, as his brother works with the men's basketball team at Iowa State.
Here's some highlights from Hamilton:
Former Iowa State star forward Izaiah Brockington will sign an exhibit 10 contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. An exhibit 10 contract is a training camp invite that gives the team the opportunity to sign the player to a two two deal before the season begins. Additionally, it gives the player a bonus for staying with the team/G-league affiliate for 60 days. From what Cyclone fans saw this season, it looks like Brockington has the tools to become an NBA player. He has a good looking shot, especially from the mid range, where it helped him average nearly 17 points per game. His strong frame also helped him average nearly seven rebounds a game last year for the Cyclones.
High School Guard Omaha Biliew has placed Iowa State in his top 3, along with Kansas and Oregon. He has also left the NBA G-League as an option to join the Ignite team, featuring other top players out of high school. He is a 6-8 forward in the class of 2023 (have been some talks of reclassification), and is a top 12 player nationally. Biliew has been on the radar nationally while playing for both Dowling Catholic and Waukee High School in Iowa where he won a state title with Waukee. He has moved on to prep schools and is on of the most coveted players in the nation. There is a good chance Omaha is looking for a place for one year before entering the NBA Draft, however, Biliew would have a huge impact for a season, where ever he ends up. Omaha would be Iowa State's top recruit of all time by a big margin. Recently, Omaha said he is leaning strongly towards the college route. On3 recruiting gives ISU an over 92 percent chance to land Biliew if he chooses to go to the college route. He also has multiple crystal ball predications to the Cyclones on both Rivals and 247 Sports. Here is his Top 3 post:
Pewaukee, Wisconsin star Milan Momcilovic has placed ISU in his top 6, along with ISU, MSU, UCLA, Virginia, Minnesota and Louisville. Momcilovic is the top player in Wisconsin and a top 35 player nationally. ISU is considered the favorite to land Momcilovic with an over 78% chance according to On3 Sports.
He joins Omaha Biliew as top forwards in the 2023 class considering ISU as their top schools. ISU went after both of these prospects and it should be fun to see how ISU continues to go after these prospects in the next few weeks and months. Here is Momcilovic's top 6 Twitter announcement:
AJ Green tells 247 Sports that he will will choose between Iowa State and Duke. Green decided to not stay in the NBA draft and return. to college. While in the draft process, Green has interest from multiple teams including the Bucks and the Hawks. The UNI guard was recently at the G League Invite Combine where he performed well, but failed to receive an invitation to the NBA Combine. Green has connections to Iowa State through his family including his dad who is on the Iowa State Coaching Staff. Green says he will take as much time as he needs up until June 1st, the deadline to make a decision. Green recently took a visit to Duke. He has his Iowa State visit on May 28 and 29th, where we expect to hear about Green's future. He has recently been crystal balled to Duke on 247 Sports, but received a crystal ball to Iowa State a few weeks ago. More here on Green on the Cyclone Offseason Tracker.
Iowa State guard Gabe Kalscheur is returning to Iowa State. He averaged 9.6 points per game, 2.4 rebounds per game and 1.7 assists per game. He was one of the best defenders in the nation last year and will help Iowa State greatly. Here was his announcement:
Iowa State star point guard Tyrese Hunter has entered the transfer portal. The freshman guard averaged 11 points per game last year, along with 3.5 rebounds per game an 4.9 assists. All the speculation turns out to be true, and Hunter will be one of the top names in the portal with tons of eligibility left. In hindsight, the move to get Jeremiah Williams have been to replace Tyrese Hunter. This opens up lots of playing time and options for Iowa State to look for more players in the portal. Tyrese was one of the main guys on a special team for Iowa State, reaching the sweet 16. This is the first time that NIL has really left a lasting impact on Iowa State, but at the end of the day Hunter is doing what is best for him and his family. Release from Tyrese:
Iowa State Guard Aubrey Joens is transferring from Iowa State. The guard for Iowa State averaged just over 6 points per game and nearly 5 rebounds last season in just over 20 minutes a game. Here is her release on twitter:
Iowa Forward/Center Audi Crooks has committed to ISU. She was a highly touted prospect and won a state championship this year with Bishop Garrigan High School in Iowa. She is ranked as the #58 prospect in the class of 2023, and has become an internet sensation with her highlights.
Cyclone Forward Aljaz Kunc is returning to the Cyclones for his Covid year of eligibility. The forward averaged 6 PPG and 4.1 RPG while shooting nearly 42% from the field and a team high 38.9% from three point range. Kunc came to Ames from Washington State a season ago.
