1. ISheem Young-S

Isheem Young is one of ISU’s best recruits, ranking as the number 30 overall safety in the class of 2018 and graded as a four star recruit by top recruiting websites 247 Sports and Rivals. The Philadelphia native held offers from top schools like Alabama and chose ISU over schools like Georgia, Penn State, Baylor and West Virginia. During his senior campaign at Imhotep Charter, Young totaled 3 interceptions and 17 touchdowns on the ground while averaging better than 10 yards per carry. Young has good size for the safety position he looks likely to play for the Cyclones, at 5-10 and 200 pounds. He redshirted for the Cyclones during the 2019 campaign and looks to play a big role for the Cyclones during the 2020 season. It is unknown if he will get the starting role for the Cyclones with the transfer edition of former North Carolina starting safety Greg Ross, but starting or not, Young will get a good amount of snaps for the Cyclones and will have a big impact.

2. Greg Ross-Db

Ross is a defensive back who mainly plays safety. The Maryland Native transferred to Iowa State from North Carolina just a few weeks ago. At UNC, the graduate transfer totaled 57 tackles and 9 pass breakups. He was the #1 ranked safety from Maryland as a recruit and boasted offers from schools like Clemson, Iowa, and Kentucky. Look for him to play a big role for the Cyclones as the third safety in their scheme. As of now, it seems he and Isheem Young could split time at a safety position. 3. LATRELL BANKSTON-DT

Bankston, another top Junior College product, chose the Cyclones over Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas State and multiple others. Bankston was highly rated and appeared on my Top 10 Rated Cyclone Football Recruits of the Decade Article. Bankston is a 6 foot defensive tackle from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. He is ranked as the number 26 overall player coming out of community college and was a big get for the Cyclones. The Georgia native is also the third ranked Juco DT in his class. He will be eligible to play in the upcoming season and Cyclone Nation is eager to see what he will bring to the table. Bankston has a good chance to start at the Nose Guard position for the Cyclones.

4. Xavier Hutchinson-WR

Hutchinson, one of the top JUCO wide receivers from Blinn Junior College, chose Iowa State over Oklahoma, Nebraska and others. The 3 star recruit tallied almost 1000 career yards during his two junior college years and tallied 7 touchdowns. The staff has spoken very highly about Hutchinson as he joins a deep receiving room led by Tarique Milton and possible breakout Sean Shaw Jr. He will compete with Darren Wilson Jr. and Joe Scates for snaps and should rack up a decent amount of catches for the Cyclones. The Jacksonville, Florida native will look to stretch the field and step into a role like La’Michael Pettway had for the Cyclones last season if he earns a starting spot that many think he has a very solid chance to earn. If he breaks out, he could also have seasons for the Cyclones like Hakeem Butler and Allen Lazard did in previous seasons.

5. Jirehl Brock-RB

Running back Jirehl Brock was one of ISU’s best recruits, with a 4 star ranking from 247 Sports. He was ranked as the second best player in Illinois and 17th best running back in his class. He chose ISU over Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan State, Illinois and many others. He averaged over 5 yards a carry during his freshman season, rushing for 48 yards on 9 carries. He only appeared in 4 games, so Brock was able to use a redshirt season during his first campaign for the Cyclones. Look for Brock to be the main backup back behind standout Breece Hall next season. Johnnie Lang and Kene Nwangwu will also be with Brock in the backfield, backing up Hall. Additionally, there is a good chance Brock will be the main back after Hall’s time with the Cyclones.

6. Keontae Jones-DB

Iowa State defensive back Keontae Jones is looking for a breakout season. The brother of Cyclone standout wide receiver Deshaunte Jones is entering his redshirt junior season. The 3 star recruit out of Cincinnati had plenty of offers coming out of high school. Some of the top offers were from Illinois, Iowa, Virginia Tech and Indiana. In 2019, Jones appeared in 9 games and recorded two tackles. Jones will look to get a good amount of snaps in a loaded cornerback room. Tayvonn Kyle, Datrone Young, Kym-Mani King and Anthony Johnson are also all returning to lead the Cyclones in 2020. I believe Jones will have an even bigger role with the Cyclones during the 2021 season.

7. Joey Ramos-OT

Joey Ramos was ranked as a 3 star coming out of high school in the class of 2017, and had big offers including Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, Washington and others. He was ranked as a top lineman in Arizona. The Phoenix native redshirted his first season in Ames and was on special teams duty for the Cyclones last season. Ramos looks to compete for the Cyclones at a tackle position for the Cyclones, and is the frontrunner to grab the starting left tackle spot in Ames for the 2020 season.

8. Corey Suttle-DE

Defensive end Corey Suttle came to Ames after choosing the Cyclones over Wyoming. The Missouri native had offers from other schools including South Dakota, South Dakota State and Northern Iowa. He was ranked the 12th best player in Missouri by 247 Sports and looks to bolster the depth on the defensive line. He redshirted last season for Iowa State, which was his first year in the program. This season, he will play behind stars Eyioma Uwazurike and JaQuan Bailey, but looks for Suttle to get some meaningful snaps this year. These snaps will hopefully propel Suttle to be a strong defensive end for the Cyclones in the future.

9. Grant Treiber-OT

Grant Treiber was only ranked as a 3 star coming out of high school, but had big offers including Oregon, Minnesota, Nebraska Oklahoma State and others. He was ranked as the top player in South Dakota. The South Dakota native did not appear in a game in 2019 for the Cyclones and used his redshirt. Treiber looks to compete for the Cyclones at a tackle position for the Cyclones, either the right or left tackle position in a new look offensive line for the Cyclones. Even if Treiber does not get a starting job for the Clones, he will be a key backup on the line.

10. Isaiah Lee-DT

Isaiah Lee was a 3 star recruit coming out of Highschool and Ranked the 68th best defensive in the class of 2017. He was ranked in the top 1000 by 247 sports and held offers from North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Ball State, Central Michigan and others. The Chicago native posted double digit sack seasons in High School before joining the Cyclones in 2018. Lee played in two games for the Cyclones in 2018, including the Cyclones big upset victory over the sixth ranked West Virginia Mountaineers. Because Lee did not appear in 4 games for the Cyclones in 2018, he was granted a redshirt. Lee also appeared in one game in 2019 for Iowa State. The redshirt sophomore will look to compete with Joshua Bailey (twin brother of Jaquan Bailey) for time at the nose tackle position for the Cyclones, backing up Latrell Bankston, who will also get featured as a new name to know. Iowa State subs often on the defensive line so looks for Lee to get a solid amount of snaps for the Cyclones.

Honorable Mentions:

TE-Skylar Loving-Black TE-Easton Dean Loving-Black and Dean are two great tight ends for the Cyclones. Easton Dean was moved from quarterback to tight end last season and Matt Campbell is very high on him, which could earn him a few snaps. Loving-Black was a really good recruit with good tape for the Cyclones. These tight ends missed the list not due to their Talent, but due to the loaded TE room ahead of the them which features: Charlie Kolar, Chase Allen and Dylan Schoener.
