Former Cyclones Impress during NFL Preseason

Updated: Aug 14, 2022

Cyclone rookies have already had early success in the first week of the NFL preseason. Here are a breakdown from some of the Cyclone's performances:

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Brock Purdy (QB- San Francisco 49ers)

Brock Purdy had Cyclone social media going crazy with his impressive 4th quarter for the San Francisco 49ers. This 4th quarter including ago ahead touchdown and two point conversion, along with a clock draining final drive, giving the 49ers the victory over the Packers. Brock went 3/6 for 36 yards and a touchdown. Here is his touchdown:

Breece Hall (RB-New York Jets)

Breece Hall rushed 5 times for 15 yards in the Jets 24-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. With Breece being one of the major factors for the Jets offense, they looked like they were protecting their young star and not having him out on the field too much.

Michael Jacobson (TE-Indianapolis Colts)

After his basketball career with the Cyclones, Michael Jacobson decided to switch to football, which has turned out to be a smart decision. Jacobson had one catch in his preseason debut for the Colts, however, this catch was an important one, leading to a touchdown for the Colts in their close loss to the Bills. Here is Jacobson's touchdown:

Chase Allen (TE- Chicago Bears)

Chase Allen brought in his lone target for the 2 yard gain in his Bears preseason debut. The Bears beat the Chiefs 19-14.

Mike Rose (LB- Kansas City Chiefs)

Mike Rose added a pass defense for the Chiefs in his preseason debut. They narrowly fell to Chase Allen and the Bears.

Kene Nwangwu (RB-Minnesota Vikings)

Nwangwu was one of the bright spots for the Vikings in their narrow preseason loss to the Raiders. The former Cyclone running back rushed for 41 yards on 7 carries. He also added 18 yards on 2 catches.

Jake Hummel (LB- Los Angeles Rams)

Hummel had a game leading 10 tackles in the Rams 29-22 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. 5 of those 10 tackles were solo tackles for the former Cyclone star linebacker.
