Where are They Now?- Tyrus McGee

Collegiate Career

McGee went to Cowley Junior College after his time at Stringtown High School in Stringtown, Oklahoma. After multiple years at junior college, McGee transferred to Iowa State where he instantly became a knockdown shooter. In McGee’s first season with the Cyclones, he totaled 7.7 PPG while shooting nearly 40% from three. The Oklahoma native improved greatly for his final season at ISU, averaging 13.1 PPG while shooting over 46 percent from deep, which led the nation. He also added 1.6 APG and 1.1 SPG to go along with his stellar shooting. That performance led McGee to be named as a All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.

Professional Career

Tyrus began his professional career in 2013, where he signed with Breogan in the second league of the Spanish Basketball system. In 2014, the sharpshooter signed in the top level of German Basketball with Bremerhaven before moving to the top level of Italian Basketball where he played for Orlandia Basket. He played in Italy until 2018, and won a championship with Reyer Venezia in 2016. In 2016, McGee averaged over 10 PPG and just over 2.6 APG to help with the championship run. Since his time in Italy, McGee has played in the highest levels of basketball in both France and Turkey. In McGee’s latest season, he averaged 10.5 PPG to go along with 2 APG and 2 RPG. The Basketball Tournament

In the 2019 TBT tournament, McGee was the leading scorer for the Iowa United team, as he came out scorching hot in their game against the Wichita State Alumni Team. McGee did not participate in the 2020 tournament due to Iowa United not making the 24 team cut.
